about

The music of this album began as an original live score to Jean Epstein's classic 1928 silent film 'The Fall of the House of Usher.'

The film is based on Edgar Allen Poe's gothic horror story of the same name. Beyond retelling a scary story, Epstein’s film is a visually stunning work of early experimental cinema. Dreamlike digressions into slow motion, double exposure, and bizarre montage are decades beyond the typical fare of its time.

With its rhythmic editing and recurring sonic imagery such as guitars, chimes, wind, and thunder, this is a silent film in search of a score. Pyrrha's soundtrack is spacious yet heavy, inspired by the sensuous slow motion of Epstein's imagery.

This album version is edited from the original full-length soundtrack, and is not intended to be played in synchronization with the film.
